March 25, 2024
Genital Plastic Surgery - Labia Minora Correction

Labiaplasty, or genital plastic surgery, is a procedure to correct the size and shape of the labia (minora and majora). It helps correct asymmetry, change the appearance of the labia, and rejuvenate the genital area. Most often, labiaplasty procedures are performed to correct congenital defects, improve the appearance of the intimate area after childbirth, and address changes associated with aging.

Labia minora correction is possible not only through surgical intervention but also through injections; laser surgery and radiofrequency devices can also be used. The doctor works with the patient to select the most appropriate procedure on a case-by-case basis. Labiaplasty has not only aesthetic but also therapeutic benefits, as it can reduce inflammation, itching, dryness, discomfort, and pain, and improve one’s sex life.

Labiaplasty is often necessary for patients after puberty who have developed juvenile labial hypertrophy and asymmetry. It is also performed on women after pregnancy and childbirth, as well as to alleviate discomfort associated with menopause, following chemotherapy, or after rapid weight loss.

Description of Procedures

Labiaplasty procedures are performed on an outpatient basis. Depending on the procedure chosen, you will need to spend a few hours or one day at the clinic.

All procedures begin with anesthesia. Depending on the indications, either local or general anesthesia is used.

In a traditional labiaplasty, the surgeon performs tissue correction using a scalpel or radiofrequency energy, shaping the labia as needed and applying cosmetic sutures. Most commonly, dissolvable sutures are used, as they absorb on their own within a few months and eventually disappear completely. Sometimes labia minora correction is combined with clitoral or vaginoplasty. Lipomodeling (fat grafting) is also an option. Sometimes a combination of methods is necessary to achieve the best results. The surgery lasts an average of 1.5 hours.

Filler injections (using hyaluronic acid) can augment the labia majora, enhance G-spot sensitivity, and revitalize the intimate area. After this procedure, the intimate area takes on a more youthful appearance and its functional capabilities are restored. Patients often report that these changes have helped improve their sex lives. Local anesthesia is used during the hyaluronic acid injection. The procedure takes about 30 minutes.

Recovery

Labia minora reduction is performed on an outpatient basis, so the patient can leave the clinic and return home after a few hours.

The recovery period lasts from two weeks to a month. During the first few days, there may be swelling, redness, and increased sensitivity in the genital area. However, there should be no severe pain or bleeding. Follow-up visits with a gynecologist are usually scheduled for the 3rd or 14th day (if stitches need to be removed) and on the 30th day to monitor the healing process.

Most women tolerate labiaplasty easily and recover quickly afterward. Many return to work as early as the day after surgery.

Result

Labiaplasty, when performed as a reduction procedure, is a one-time procedure. However, if you choose to have children afterward, the results of labiaplasty may be affected. For this reason, many women decide to undergo this surgery after they have completed their childbearing years.

The injections produce an immediate effect, but the full results are achieved within a week. The results last for about a year.
