Pronator Muscle Syndrome (Pronator Syndrome)
About the Service
The symptoms of the flexor muscle syndrome are very similar to those of carpal tunnel syndrome—a sensation of numbness in the fingers or wrist—but the median nerve is compressed in the forearm rather than in the carpal tunnel. Carpal tunnel release surgery will not produce the desired result. One of the most common reasons for surgical failure is an incorrect diagnosis.
To determine the extent of nerve damage or compression, a hand surgeon will have the patient undergo nerve conduction studies (neurography or electromyography). These tests often reveal that the cause of the symptoms is compression of the nerve roots in the neck. In such cases, the patient is referred to a vertebrologist for further specialized treatment.
