Congenital Hand Deformities
Congenital hand deformities, such as syndactyly (fused fingers), are corrected surgically by separating the fingers and performing skin grafts. Specialists at the Microsurgery Center also perform complex hand reconstructions for children with developmental disorders.
About the Service
One of the most common congenital hand defects is syndactyly or fused fingers. The fingers can be separated through hand surgery. The procedure also requires a small skin graft to close the incisions. A more complex surgery is required if the finger bones are fused together, but it is usually possible to restore full finger function after the surgery. Specialists at the Microsurgery Center also perform complex hand reconstructions for children with developmental disorders of the hand and wrist, such as missing fingers, bones, or joints.
