Plastic Surgery in the Fall

As we slowly grow older, our faces and bodies change, yet it’s a pleasure to see people who take care of themselves at any age and maintain a positive outlook on life. Nature has given some people a special gift—the ability to look younger than their years, while others skillfully seek the help of professional, certified plastic surgeons to complement their inner wisdom with an aesthetically pleasing outward appearance.

The Latvian Microsurgery Center employs highly qualified doctors who are leaders in their field and can provide the best possible care to every patient. We invite you to take advantage of the fall to improve your appearance, which will undoubtedly reflect in your self-confidence as well. This time of year is ideal because the intense heat is gone—heat that can be uncomfortable when wearing special compression masks, garments, or corsets. In the fall, the sun’s intensity has decreased, making it easier to protect your eyes and face following blepharoplasty or facelift surgeries. Below, we’ll describe the most relevant surgeries and procedures that are recommended at this time.

For the face – blepharoplasty, facelifts, and injections

Eyelid correction, or blepharoplasty, is performed to remove excess skin and fatty tissue from the upper or lower eyelids. It is one of the most popular surgeries worldwide, performed on both women and men, because everyone wants to look more cheerful and happier.

This procedure can help smooth out wrinkles on the forehead and eliminate “dark circles” and puffiness around the eyes. In some cases, when the eyelid skin heavily covers the eyes, the procedure results in a wider field of vision.

There are several types of blepharoplasty, and the nature of the procedure may vary. Surgery can be performed on either the upper eyelids or the lower eyelids alone. It is also possible to operate on both eyelids at the same time.

Recovery after blepharoplasty is relatively quick. During the first few days, you should apply cold compresses to your eyes and protect them from direct sunlight and wind. For about a week, you should not tilt your head downward, and for about ten days, you should avoid physical activity and heavy lifting. After that, you can return to work and your daily activities.

If your face requires more significant improvements, a facelift can be performed to lift and tighten the underlying structures and remove sagging skin. A facelift can be performed on the entire face and décolletage area; it can also be combined with blepharoplasty, and it is possible to improve only specific problem areas of the face, such as the midface or to restore the jawline. After a facelift, the patient looks about ten years younger.

The recovery period after a facelift depends on the extent of the surgery. Patients should expect to wear a facial compression mask for the first few weeks, and the results of the surgery will be visible after one month.

Plastic surgeons also offer various types of cosmetic injections that can help smooth out wrinkles and fine lines in different areas of the face. The skin is enriched with a complex of vitamins, minerals, amino acids, and other beneficial substances. Thanks to the unique composition of these formulations, beauty injections have both cosmetic and therapeutic effects on the skin, helping to prevent the first signs of aging. Hyaluronic acid or botulinum toxin is typically injected.

By undergoing these procedures in a timely and regular manner, it is possible to delay the need for more extensive surgical procedures as long as possible, as well as improve their results. Injections help delay the appearance of the first expression lines, prevent deeper wrinkles, and preserve tissue structure and volume by slowing tissue sagging. It should be noted that an increasing number of men are requesting and choosing these procedures. Injection procedures are safe, require no additional recovery time, and produce immediate results.

Breasts – Augmentation, Reduction, and Correction

Every woman wants to have beautiful breasts. Plastic surgery offers a wide range of options in this area.

The most popular procedures are breast augmentation surgeries, which use implants of various shapes and sizes. There are two main types of implants: anatomical (teardrop-shaped) implants and round implants. Anatomical implants give the breasts a more natural appearance, while round implants effectively lift the upper pole of the breast.

Breast reduction surgery is typically performed for medical reasons, as excessively large breasts are heavy, which places strain on the spine and neck area, alters a woman’s gait, and patients often suffer from pain as a result. After breast reduction surgery, women experience improvements in both their physical condition and emotional well-being.

Breast lift, or mastopexy, surgeries are in high demand, especially if the breasts have sagged after breastfeeding or have lost their firmness over the years. Sometimes a breast lift is combined with augmentation, especially in cases where the breasts appear ptotic or deflated.

There are cases where breast reconstruction is necessary to achieve symmetry. Doctors at the Latvian Microsurgery Center perform highly complex surgeries to restore breast volume following cancer surgeries. Whenever possible, the breasts are reconstructed using the patient’s own tissue, with implants or the patient’s own fat tissue used to restore volume.

After breast surgery, you must wear a special medical bra for 4–6 weeks; you must not wear bras with metal underwires sewn into the bottom of the cups. For about the same amount of time, you should avoid heavy physical labor or intense exercise. The breasts gradually regain their shape after surgery, but the entire process fully stabilizes in about three months.

For the Abdomen – Tummy Tuck and Liposuction

Abdominoplasty, or tummy tuck surgery, will help restore a flat and firm abdomen. This procedure also strengthens the anterior abdominal wall by tightening the connective tissues and correcting diastasis recti following pregnancy or rapid weight loss. The essence of abdominoplasty is that excess skin and fat are removed, and stretched muscle structures are corrected. These surgeries are not performed to reduce excess weight, but rather to make the anterior abdominal wall aesthetically appealing and toned.

A tummy tuck is performed when exercise or other methods are unable to restore the elasticity of the abdominal wall. The procedure is often performed on new mothers after childbirth, in which case it can also be combined with a breast lift. Abdominoplasty is also an option for patients who have significantly lost excess weight.

For 6–8 weeks after surgery, you must wear an abdominal support corset and avoid physical activity for the same period of time.

Sometimes, in certain areas of the body—such as the abdomen, hips, thighs, and elsewhere—that cannot be eliminated through diet or exercise, liposuction can help. This method is also not intended for losing excess weight, but rather for body contouring.
