Liposuction: Body Contouring to Achieve Your Dream Silhouette

We live in an era where appearance plays a very significant role in maintaining our self-confidence and overall well-being. Even a small roll of fat peeking out from under one’s clothes can affect even the most self-assured woman, so it’s no surprise that various cosmetic surgery procedures are becoming increasingly popular among the general public.

One of the most popular cosmetic surgery procedures today is liposuction, also known as fat removal —a cosmetic surgery method that effectively removes excess fat from various areas of the body and, when combined with a healthy lifestyle, can help you achieve your dream body shape.

Liposuction—a quick fix for the lazy, or an effective tool for the determined?
Liposuction is a modern, safe, and effective body contouring method that involves the targeted removal of stubborn fat from the abdomen, thighs, hips, arms, neck, buttocks, or other problem areas. Although it might initially seem that liposuction is a quick and easy way to lose excess weight, it is important to understand that the main goal of this procedure is not weight loss, but rather the improvement of body contours and overall shape.

“For many women, despite following a healthy lifestyle and engaging in regular physical activity, certain areas of the body stubbornly hold onto fat reserves and do not respond to any diets or exercise routines. This battle against stubborn fat cells can be very difficult and damaging to self-esteem. Liposuction offers a solution precisely for these situations, targeting these stubborn areas to help eliminate unwanted fat deposits,” says Nonna Tomiševa, a plastic surgeon at the Latvian Microsurgery Center.

Liposuction is not a substitute for a healthy lifestyle and physical activity; rather, it serves as an effective complementary method for body contouring and volume reduction. Liposuction helps remove fat deposits in specific areas of the body when subcutaneous fat cannot be reduced through diet, exercise, or various other cosmetic procedures. This procedure is particularly effective for people with a genetic predisposition to fat accumulation in specific areas, such as the chin. Furthermore, the results of a properly performed liposuction procedure last a lifetime, because, unlike physical weight loss and fat burning at the gym, fat no longer accumulates in the problem area after liposuction, and the removed fat cells do not regenerate.

A major surgery with visible results
Liposuction involves injecting a physiological solution, anesthetic, and a solution containing epinephrine into the target area, which helps reduce bleeding and swelling. Depending on the selected area and the amount of fat to be removed, the liposuction procedure is performed under local, epidural, or general anesthesia. Basically, during the liposuction procedure, a small incision is made in the selected area, into which thin tubes (cannulas) are inserted; the separated fat cells are then removed through these tubes using a vacuum device. The process of removing subcutaneous fat, however, can vary, and both ultrasound devices and laser devices may be used to perform it.

Recovery time also depends on the extent of the procedure and the area of the body treated. Most people return to work after one or two weeks, but it may take several weeks for the swelling to fully subside and for the results of the procedure to become visible.

Is liposuction safe?
As with any surgical procedure, liposuction carries certain risks; however, overall, liposuction is a safe and effective way to achieve a beautiful body shape. To ensure optimal results with minimal scarring, it is important to choose a qualified specialist who will determine whether this is the right solution for your needs. The Latvian Microsurgery Center offers a wide range of plastic and reconstructive surgery services, including liposuction procedures for various areas of the body.
