On Latvian Independence Day—November 18, a day of great significance to Latvians as the day the Declaration of Independence was issued—we will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Dutch Association for Hand Surgery.

I am very pleased that Dr. med. M. Kapickis and Dr. med. U. Krustiņš agreed to come and give lectures on hand surgery in Latvia, but I am especially pleased that they have helped victims from the war zone in Ukraine.

An important aspect of such meetings is not only to share academic findings and results, but also to build collaborations, which were hampered by the COVID pandemic.

It's not just about reading results from a piece of paper or looking at a screen using various digital media at conferences, but also about building collaboration.

I believe that bringing together people from high-level institutions and enabling them to collaborate will improve the quality of patient care.

”The goal of this collaboration in Latvia is to improve the training of scholarship recipients in Western Europe and to create a platform where the next generation of hand surgeons can continue their education," says Dr. Zulfi Rahimtoola.
