Doctors at the Latvian Microsurgery Center perform incredible surgeries

On June 15, 2023, microsurgeons at the Latvian Microsurgery Center successfully reattached an eight-year-old boy’s completely severed hand and restored blood flow to all of his fingers. The surgery was extremely complex and lasted 8 hours!

The surgery was performed by Dr. med. Kalvis Pastars (Kalvis Pastars, PhD, plastic surgeon): “The amputation was at the level of the wrist, near the base. Children… It’s always a special experience. We have children of our own.”.

The boy is recovering, and he has a long period of rehabilitation ahead of him. However, thanks to the coordinated efforts of his parents and doctors, his arm will be fine—its function will be restored by 90%. LTV News Service LSM
